AI photo scan: point your camera and it logs itself
Most habit trackers lose you at the logging step: unlock, open, find the routine, find the activity, tap. With EasyRoutine you open the Scan tab, point at the thing you just used, and the activity is logged.
How it works
- Give each activity a photo. When you add an activity, take a photo of the real thing: the bottle of vitamin D, the serum, the rowing machine.
- Open the Scan tab after you have done it and point the camera at the same object.
- The app finds the match and logs it for the current time, then shows you the routine it belongs to on the calendar.
The scan matches your photo against descriptions of your own activities, not a product database. That is why it works for anything you track, including things no app has heard of, like a homemade tincture or the kettlebell in your hallway.
When it guesses wrong
- No match: the app tells you, and offers a manual picker for the routine and activity.
- Wrong match: open the log on the calendar and delete it, then log the right activity.
- Look-alike products: two white bottles can be hard to tell apart. Photograph the label side for both activities, or keep them in different routines and scan from the routine you are in, which the scan prefers when it is unsure.
Name suggestions from a photo
When you add an activity from a photo, EasyRoutine suggests a short name for it, like "Vitamin D3" or "Retinol serum". You can keep it or type your own. The same description is what the scan uses later to recognise the activity.
Where your photo goes
The reference photos you add to activities are different: they are stored with your account, shown on your activities, and used once to write the description the scan matches against. They are deleted when you delete your account. The full details are in the privacy policy.
What you need
- An internet connection. The scan runs on a server, so it does not work offline.
- Camera permission for EasyRoutine.
- Nothing else: the scan is free on both iPhone and Android.
Common questions
What can the photo scan recognise?
It recognises your own activities, not a fixed catalogue. When you add a photo to an activity, EasyRoutine writes a short description of what is in it, like "vitamin D3 bottle". The scan matches what your camera sees against those descriptions, so anything you can photograph works: a supplement bottle, a skincare product, a gym machine, a toothbrush. Activities without a photo cannot be scanned.
What happens if it picks the wrong activity or finds nothing?
If nothing matches, the app says so and lets you pick the routine and activity by hand. If it logs the wrong one, open the log on the calendar and delete it. Retaking the activity's photo gives it a new description, which usually fixes repeat mistakes.
Where do my photos go when I use the scan?
A resized copy of the scan image is sent to Google's Gemma AI model, currently through the routing provider OpenRouter, to find the matching activity. It is processed in memory, not stored, and never used to train AI models.
Does the scan work without internet?
No. Matching runs on a server, so the scan needs a connection.
Is the photo scan free?
Yes. The scan is included on the free plan.
