Free habit tracker app vs paid habit trackers: what you actually get for free
You do not have to pay to use EasyRoutine. Logging, notes, photos, the photo scan, the calendar and sync are free, with a banner ad. Premium is a monthly subscription for schedules, reminders and no ads.
What the free plan includes
Everything you need to log routines and look back at them is free, with no limit on how many routines, activities or logs you keep:
- Routines and activities: as many as you like, each activity with a color and an optional photo.
- Quick logging: tap + Log on a day and pick one or several activities, also on an earlier day if you forgot, then tap a log to adjust its time.
- Notes and flags: a comment and a red, amber or green flag on any log. When you log an activity, the log sheet shows your last few notes for it.
- Photos and the photo scan: give an activity a photo, let the AI suggest its name, and log it later by pointing the camera at it. The scan only recognizes your own activities that have a photo. How the photo scan works.
- Calendar: Day, Week and Month views of everything you logged. Tap an activity's tile to show only that activity, so the last tile tells you when you last did it. More about the calendar.
- Day streak and totals on the Profile tab.
- Sync: your account keeps everything, on every phone where you sign in. Sign-in and sync.
The only technical caps are things like name length and a daily limit on AI photo requests that normal use does not reach. Free plan limits.
Are there ads on the free plan?
Yes. The free plan shows a banner ad at the bottom of the Calendar tab and the Profile tab. There are no full-screen or video ads. In regions where the law requires it, you are asked for ad consent first, and the Profile tab has a privacy choices row to change it. Your routines and logs are never shared with advertisers. Ads on the free plan.
What Premium adds
Premium unlocks three things, and nothing else:
- Schedule planning: the Plan tab, where each activity gets its weekdays and times, single dates and an optional active period. Planned entries then show faded on the calendar. Scheduling.
- Activity notifications: a reminder for each timed slot, on time or 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes before. Reminders.
- No ads.
So what do you lose by staying free? Planning and reminders. If you remember on your own and just want a record, the free plan is the full app minus those two and plus a banner.
What Premium costs
Premium is one monthly subscription: $1.49 a month in the US and €1.49 in euro countries. Other countries see their local price in the app before buying, for example £0.99 in the UK. There is no yearly plan, lifetime purchase or free trial. You pay through the App Store or Google Play and can cancel any time in your store settings; Premium then lasts until the end of the period you paid for. If you cancel, your logs and history stay, and schedule editing is locked again. Pricing.
What to check when comparing paid apps
We will not list other apps' prices here, because they change and differ by country. When you compare trackers, look at what their free version allows:
- Is there a cap on the number of habits?
- How far back can you see your history?
- Does sync between phones cost extra?
- Are notes, photos or the calendar view behind the paywall?
In EasyRoutine none of those are limited or paid.
Where a paid app may suit you better
To be fair, paying for another app can make sense:
- Statistics: EasyRoutine has no charts, completion percentages or per-habit analytics.
- Amounts: it records that and when you did something, not quantities, sets or doses.
- Offline use: EasyRoutine needs an internet connection and an account.
- Free reminders: in EasyRoutine they are part of Premium.
- One-time purchase: some apps sell a lifetime license. EasyRoutine is monthly only.
- Integrations: EasyRoutine has no widgets, watch app or health app connection.
If you need any of these, a paid app may be the better fit.
Who should stay free
Stay on the free plan if you want to log routines, add notes and see your history, and a banner does not bother you. Upgrade to Premium if you want each activity planned on its own days with a reminder, or you would rather not see ads.
